Carers Voice

YOUR VIEWS MATTER

At NLCT, we are dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for carers to engage and participate in shaping the services and policies that impact their lives. We achieve this by facilitating involvement at three key levels…

;

1. INDIVIDUAL INVOLVEMENT

Supporting carers to build knowledge and skills to represent themselves effectively. For example, our Recognition to Rights training program supports carers over several weeks to:

  • Learn about the history of the carer and disability movements.
  • Understand the health and social care structure in North Lanarkshire.
  • Develop tools and skills to represent themselves and advocate for the collective voices of carers in local and national forums.

2. COLLECTIVE VOICE

Through initiatives like our Carer Forum, we provide carers with a platform to:

  • Share issues, experiences, and information in a supportive networking environment.
  • Actively connect with professionals to discuss and consult on policies and service developments affecting carers and those they care for.
  • Develop unified responses to key concerns, ensuring these are presented to the most relevant decision-making forums.
  • The Carer Forum meet 4 times per year (1 in-person, 3 online) and can also contribute via a member-only Facebook page.

3. REPRESENTATION

Our staff actively represent carers’ views in various local networks, ensuring their needs are considered in policy development.

Additionally, one of our Directors, who is a carer, serves as the Carer Representative on the Integration Joint Board, where they advocate for the priorities and concerns of carers at a strategic level.

We recognise the unique challenges faced by Parent Carers and as such, intend on creating a Parent Carer Forum soon to act in the same way and represent Parent Carer views.

By supporting engagement at these levels, North Lanarkshire Carers Together amplifies the voices of carers and ensures their perspectives drive meaningful improvements in health and social care services across North Lanarkshire.

We Asked, You Said, We Did

At NLCT, “We Asked, You Said, We Did” is more than a guiding principle, it’s our promise to every carer who engages with us. We are committed to closing the loop on consultation by sharing the outcomes of your input, detailing how we will use it, and explaining who it will be shared with and its resulting impact. Too often, carers and others are asked for their opinions but are left in the dark about how their feedback is used. We are determined to break this cycle by ensuring transparency, accountability, and meaningful action based on your contributions. Your voice drives the change, and we make sure you see the results.

Engagement and Participation Strategy

We contributed to the development of the University Health and Social Care North Lanarkshire Engagement and Participation Strategy 2024-2027. The strategy aims to ensure carers and other communities actively participate in decision making processes to shape services and supports. You can read more about it here…
